The Sun Still Comes Up

Did you ever think about that?  The sun still comes up. Every day.  Some days it may be hidden by clouds.  Some days it may be covered with raindrops.  Some days, heaven forbid it, there may even be snow that covers the brilliance of the sun but it ALWAYS comes up.  Without fail. I was just pondering that fact this past week when I have felt the burdens of several of my friends.  If I could offer one word of comfort to any of them it would be just that fact---the sun still comes up.   No … [Read more...]

Stand If You Are Able. Don’t Fret If You Can’t.

I recently spent a few days visiting my mom in Ohio and one of the things that we did was attend church on Sunday morning at her home church, Christ United Methodist in Alliance.  She has come to love this congregation over the past 14 years or so and after attending with her numerous times during that time I can certainly understand why.  They are a gracious and welcoming congregation and I always enjoy the services.  I think one of the things that I really enjoy about their services are that … [Read more...]

Driftless

Driftless---having no aim or direction. This past weekend I found myself in a state of driftlessness.  My plans changed dramatically due to Mother Nature and I found myself without a schedule and itinerary.  It was odd.  A bit disconcerting. Saturday I awoke at the usual normal hour of 6 am and could not fall back asleep.  The mind was working overtime mulling over the events of the past day. I like a plan.  Chris and I are definitely planners.  Our lives have always needed to be … [Read more...]

Comments for a Cause: Bridging the Gap

I am having to scramble a bit to get this post done but I know everyone is looking forward to the first of the month now just like I do every month.  I am a bit distracted this weekend by the festivities of Cory and Sam's wedding but what a wonderful way to be distracted!!!  Best wishes to my son's former roommate and his new wife!!!! This past month has been a wonderful month to highlight a local group that is fundraising for a new facility that will house the local women and children who … [Read more...]

Successful Living

I know you guys all think that I have it all figured out, don' t you?   Some days I think I do and then other days I know that I don't have a clue but then that's just life, isn' t it? Years ago I got a print for Chris to put in his office.  He has had this print in various offices over the years from Ohio to Pennsylvania to Illinois to North Carolina and Iowa.  As we are anticipating an eventual total move to Texas I have been cleaning and sorting and getting ready for that day.  Chris found … [Read more...]

Time Brings Changes

I have not regaled you with any Carlton stories for awhile but the truth is that since we no longer have the day to day contact with him like when we were living in Ohio taking care of him the stories are few and far between.  Add to the fact that our sweet Carlton is aging and showing the signs of aging and the stories are stories of a different type. The stories now are more stories that are centered around his changing behavior.  Our once outgoing and talkative Carlton is now far more … [Read more...]

Doors

I am a huge fan of Oswald Chambers who wrote "My Utmost For His Highest".  Sometimes I have to read the selection several times before I can really understand what he is getting at.  He is a pretty deep fellow.  The selection yesterday got me thinking about doors. " God never again opens the doors that have been closed.  He opens other doors , but he reminds us that there have been doors that we have shut---doors which had no need to be shut....God will turn what might have been into a … [Read more...]

Living for the Journey

I read a blog prompt somewhere that asked the question "Do you live for the destination or the journey?" My initial response, as a Christian, was the destination. Who does not long for heaven? A place where there is no cancer or Alzheimers, no poverty or discrimination, no hatred or sadness. A place that I imagine is pretty much perfect---whatever that perfect place is for you--that is what I imagine it to be. For me I think there will be lots of music and lots of smiley faces floating around. … [Read more...]
