Did you ever think about that? The sun still comes up. Every day. Some days it may be hidden by clouds. Some days it may be covered with raindrops. Some days, heaven forbid it, there may even be snow that covers the brilliance of the sun but it ALWAYS comes up. Without fail. I was just pondering that fact this past week when I have felt the burdens of several of my friends. If I could offer one word of comfort to any of them it would be just that fact---the sun still comes up. No … [Read more...]

Stand If You Are Able. Don’t Fret If You Can’t.
I recently spent a few days visiting my mom in Ohio and one of the things that we did was attend church on Sunday morning at her home church, Christ United Methodist in Alliance. She has come to love this congregation over the past 14 years or so and after attending with her numerous times during that time I can certainly understand why. They are a gracious and welcoming congregation and I always enjoy the services. I think one of the things that I really enjoy about their services are that … [Read more...]

Doors
I am a huge fan of Oswald Chambers who wrote "My Utmost For His Highest". Sometimes I have to read the selection several times before I can really understand what he is getting at. He is a pretty deep fellow. The selection yesterday got me thinking about doors. " God never again opens the doors that have been closed. He opens other doors , but he reminds us that there have been doors that we have shut---doors which had no need to be shut....God will turn what might have been into a … [Read more...]
Living for the Journey
I read a blog prompt somewhere that asked the question "Do you live for the destination or the journey?" My initial response, as a Christian, was the destination. Who does not long for heaven? A place where there is no cancer or Alzheimers, no poverty or discrimination, no hatred or sadness. A place that I imagine is pretty much perfect---whatever that perfect place is for you--that is what I imagine it to be. For me I think there will be lots of music and lots of smiley faces floating around. … [Read more...]
What NOT To Say
Recently a friend was commenting that someone said something totally inappropriate to an individual who had recently suffered a loss. In this case it was a death and the remark was one of those ones that people say ALL the time but don't really understand the impact of the words on the grieving individual. I have been guilty of it and I would hazard a guess that everyone reading this post has at one time or another made the same blunder. I went to school to be a social worker. Not that I … [Read more...]
Deadlines
How do you feel about deadlines? I found myself in a place the other day that I would rather not be. I was putting time limits on God. I was telling Him that in my perfect world (remember If I Ran The Zoo?) things would be so perfect if only this and so happened by such a date and time. Well guess what? God gently reminded me that HE is in charge, not me. The things that "I" was trying to orchestrate are totally out of my control so why was I trying? Why was I putting undue stress … [Read more...]
Their Majesties Chappell
A few weeks ago I shared a post on a lovely church in Bermuda that was left unfinished that we fell in love with. You can check that post out by clicking here. The church that was left unfinished was supposed to replace St. Peter's Church which is the one that I am featuring today. From the climbing steps to the white steeple this church is magical and we were thrilled to be able to tour it on one of the most beautiful days in our week in Bermuda. This lovely church is located in … [Read more...]
A Featherweight with Weight
I posted this post about 2 years ago and ran across it in my archives. It was such a neat story that I decided to re-share it today for those of you who may not have read it when I originally posted it. I hope you enjoy the message. Every once in a while I hear a story that just can not be forgotten. A story that needs to be written down and shared. Today is one of those days and I pray that I do it justice. It is a story about a family whose love and devotion to one another is evident … [Read more...]
Blessings in the Ordinary
Today when I went out into the garage to get ready to do a bit of snow shoveling I tried to put my gloves onto my feet. Oh I already had socks on and what I really was supposed to do was put my feet into my awaiting boots but something clicked in my brain, or rather, clicked off in my brain and I reached for the gloves I was carrying out and before I knew it I was bending down to put them on my feet. One might start to wonder about me. I know I am. But as usual, it got me to thinking. … [Read more...]
