Stand If You Are Able. Don’t Fret If You Can’t.

I recently spent a few days visiting my mom in Ohio and one of the things that we did was attend church on Sunday morning at her home church, Christ United Methodist in Alliance.  She has come to love this congregation over the past 14 years or so and after attending with her numerous times during that time I can certainly understand why.  They are a gracious and welcoming congregation and I always enjoy the services.  I think one of the things that I really enjoy about their services are that … [Read more...]

How do you feel about deadlines?  I found myself in a place the other day that I would rather not be. I was putting time limits on God.  I was telling Him that in my perfect world (remember If I Ran The Zoo?) things would be so perfect if only this and so happened by such a date and time. Well guess what?  God gently reminded me that HE is in charge, not me.   The things that "I" was trying to orchestrate are totally out of my control so why was I trying?  Why was I putting undue stress … [Read more...]

Food For Thought

I have a new obsession.  Hard to believe, I know.  First it is a Flavia coffee machine and now it is watching hummingbirds.  We really have not had many around this summer and then about a month ago we noticed one flitting to and fro so I put out a feeder.  I can sit on the deck and watch it flit to the feeder and away again. Right before we left for Houston 2 weeks ago I saw 2 and I was thrilled that our numbers had doubled.  I became the Crazy Hummingbird lady and watched for them off and … [Read more...]

Worry Me Not

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?  Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life ?  "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. … [Read more...]

Coming Clean

I am a huge fan of pressure washing.  I know that probably sounds a little bit odd but think about it for a minute. The sidewalk starts out all dirty and gross.  Bits of moss and mold and debris cover parts of an otherwise substantial and workable surface.  Along comes the fabulous pressurized spray of water and immediately the difference is evident.  What was once filthy and undesirable immediately shows signs of new life.  The concrete shows through and the dirt and grime of the years is … [Read more...]

Following the Star

Following the Star A friend posted a link to this devotional site on her Facebook page and it is a wonderful way to start each day if you are so inclined.  It focuses on youth and young adults but I found it very relevant to my own life.  You can get a daily reminder email.  Please share if you feel led.  Blessing this Advent to each of you. … [Read more...]

Such Is Life

I love the beach.  I love the smell.  I love the sounds.  I love to watch the birds and pick up shells.  We had a short time when we actually rented a house on the beach of the Coral Sea and it was wonderful.  I sleep so well when we are at a beach house.  There is just something that speaks to me in that environment. I doubt that I will ever live on a beach again but then I never thought I would live in Australia either so it could happen.  With the beach life come a lot of things that are … [Read more...]

I am a huge fan of Oswald Chambers who wrote "My Utmost For His Highest".  Sometimes I have to read the selection several times before I can really understand what he is getting at.  He is a pretty deep fellow.  The selection yesterday got me thinking about doors. " God never again opens the doors that have been closed.  He opens other doors , but he reminds us that there have been doors that we have shut---doors which had no need to be shut....God will turn what might have been into a … [Read more...]

Left overs! (via It’s Just Life)

Cheating and reposting a previous blog post----what do you think???  Are leftovers unacceptable to God???  Would love to hear from you!   One of my devotionals today was about leftovers and how the writer said that it would speak a lot about her feelings about her friends if she were to serve them leftovers thrown together for a meal instead of preparing something special for them. Of course the analogy was to how we treat God---do we give him our leftovers or do we give him our best. … [Read more...]

“Something Beautiful…” (via Wordsmith’s Desk)
