Come Take Me Away

P1060846Doesn’t that picture just scream “COME TAKE ME AWAY?”

I think the cold has gone to my head.  Or else my “Living la Vida Lamo” has started to take a toll on me.   I am making silly mistakes.   Chris looks at me and says “Should I be worried about you?”   I hope not.   I don’t think that I am quite ready for assisted living but if too many more things happen I might be moving across the street and kitty cornered to the place in our neighborhood.

I always like to get the coffee ready to go the night before. When Chris is in town I brew a pot in the morning.  If it is just me I just use the Keurig.  My standard mode of operation is to get it all set after dinner when I am done cleaning the kitchen.   We have one of those fabulous Cuisinart Grind and Brew machines that allows you to program the machine to start whenever you want.  Of course at 6:15 a.m. the sound of coffee beans grinding usually alerts us that the smell of coffee will soon be wafting back towards the bedroom.  I cleaned the brew basket, filled the water reservoir and noticed that the supply of beans was low so I proceeded to put fresh beans in the machine.  WRONG!   I wondered why they weren’t going in in the normal fashion and realized that I was trying to put them in the water reservoir.  Fortunately for me the folks at Cuisinart are aware that there are dimwits like me out there in the world and ensure that there is a screen of sorts for the water to go through so the beans did not actually go into the water reservoir but piled up on top.

Let me also remind you of the huge Christmas fail when I purchased the seven foot lamp for my son to take back on the airplane to NYC….(you can read about it if you click on the link above but the picture pretty much sums it up). The lamp that wouldn’t stop growing…..lamp

That story kind of continues into January.   I had been expecting a package from eBay and it had not arrived yet so I decided to check my order history and see what the deal was.   Lo and behold I saw that yes, indeed, the package had shipped .  To NYC.  To Micah.  Whose address apparently was the last shipment I had made on eBay.  Sigh.

I sent Micah an email with the subject line saying “I am a dork” and explained that he would be getting a package with 2 adorable teapots and if he wouldn’t mind just shipping those to me I would be eternally grateful.   He responded that he would be on the lookout for it and not to worry.  I am not worried but I am a little baffled as to why I am such a ditz at times.  It isn’t as if I have a billion things going on in my life.

I blame this blasted cold.  It is dragging on and on and on and on and quite frankly I don’t do well in cold.   My brain is frozen or something.  So please, if I make a mistake or mess up —please be gentle with me.   I am not quite ready to make that trek to the assisted living place.   Not quite.  But Aaron may want to start getting that room ready for me in Raleigh.  Just saying.

Oh in case anyone is unaware of how cold it is (I know those weathermen are not doing their job at all) it is supposed to be minus 19 here today with wind chills making it feel like minus 39.    You can find me in my warm home (thankful) with the gas fireplace going and the teakettle whistling.

  1. I’ve put the water in the beans part of the coffee maker! At least it was just a tiny bit but still. Nothing’s ever broken so I think it’s ok:)

  2. Perhaps you have too much on your mind and aren’t allowing yourself to be present? I find that the same things happen to me when I’m too busy in my head. I hope you feel better soon! Rest, have a little chicken soup and stay warm! xo

  3. Minus 19! dANG bETH Ann that’s skeery! We are right now at one degree. I am tired of it too. It leaves me speechless. What can I say except thank heavens we aren’t as cold as YOU.. 😀 AND I hope you warm up pronto! I can’t even type this morning.

  4. Maybe this cold weather was the reason for me feeling old and ready for assisted living the other day! We are getting weather unlike they have ever seen here ( I think you have family in NW OH so they know) and my fiancee broke his leg so I am the person who has to do it all. My brains and body are wearing out! lol Hope we make without being committed until Spring Beth Ann! 🙂

  5. You can laugh – that’s good! It’s only -2 here (central Illinois), with windchill of -24 … practically warm, compared to you. I’m just like you, though! 🙂

  6. “Come Take Me Away” has been a mantra in my mind recently.

I’m holing up inside today, too. No sense venturing out into sub-zero windchills and risk the chance of my brain freezing.

  7. It’s not you… It’s just too cold to think!

  8. You crack me up! I am blaming my dim-wittedness on pre menopause symptoms. My husband says I’m nuts, but I think he’s just in denial that he’s married to an almost menopausal woman. I was interviewing someone the other day (this actually happened twice in one day with two different interviews) and I couldn’t remember the word “freelance” to describe what I do for the newspaper. I couldn’t remember my own job title. Good grief.

  9. This feels like the Winter-that-just-won’t-end, doesn’t it? No, you’re not ready for the assisted living facility. You’re suffering from Polar Cold. Or Arctic Cold. Or Janus. Or whatever they’re calling this misery nowadays. Pray for Spring!

  10. Fortunately we all do things like this every now and again. Most of us aren’t as brave as you and admit it on our blog! Hope the cold weather goes away soon. I hate brain freezes!!.Stay warm.

  11. Actually, that first photo screams “It’s what’s for dinner!!!” LOL!

  12. I think it happens to a lot of people. We have more on our plates than we realize and we’re almost always multi tasking. At least your ditzy moments weren’t dangerous! 🙂

  13. I think I can make you feel a whole lot better. Do you know that hack where you cut off the top of the water bottle and then pull the top of a package through the bottle top and seal it with the top. Here: Ok I had my water bottle, I cut off the top, I took the half bag of chocolate chips poured them in garbage disposal and began pulling the bag up, through. the. top ….oh **$% I poured out the chocolate chips that I was cleverly going to seal. We could get adjacent rooms and be batty blogers. Our sons could take us out for ice cream I have dips on purple hair.
Mama said there would be days like and Mama was right. 😀

  14. Hopefully all that warmth will thaw your brain and have you back to normal in no time!

  15. That is WAY too cold! No wonder your brain is frozen.

  16. hilaryfeelingbeachie says:

it is way to cold to think clearly!

  17. After I read your blog I felt better about loosing the keys in the library. I had all kinds of help in looking for them but no keys. Later in the afternoon I got a call saying someone found them on the desk under something. I was glad of that but I did feel dumb.

  18. Since we’re all “of a certain age” might it not be “meno brain?” I find I am sometimes just confused by my whole life at times. I’ve got Kelvin doing the same thing so we make a great pair – you did it, no it was you, I did not . . . I give up! I was supposed to have a Skype date with my daughter last weekend. I was sure she said Saturday & I waited by my computer all day – she was never online. Sunday morning she calls & tells me our date was for Sunday!

  19. I do stuff like that All The Time.
Um, not sure that made you feel better — but at least you’re not alone!
And it’s cold here too — like my contacts froze while I was trying to snap a few pictures this morning kinda cold – so I think you are totally right and that is the problem.

  20. This might make you feel better. Yesterday I accidentally threw my car keys into the huge recycle bin at our apartment complex along with the recycling papers. I had to tip it over and rummage trough all the papers to retrieve them. My husband just rolled his eyes when I told him and said “I hope no one was watching.”

  21. Believe me you are not the only one with ditzy moments – I shake my head at myself more often than not at some of the things I do!!! 🙂
