Welcome 2013!!! Bring It On! 3 Words and a Song–Part 3

IMG_0324

Everyone is ringing in 2013 and I am no different!  Time to shake off the dust of 2012 and move on with 2013.  I am ready!!!!  2012 was a year of challenges and frustrations but it was also a year chock full of blessings and fun!  I could not ask for more. Well I could but it would be silly!!!   This year was a year of firsts —first trip to China, first time one of our pets faced death in the face and beat it, first son got accepted into an Ivy League school, first time to quadruple (well over!) my blog views per day, first time to be married 30 years and I am thinking it is also the last time!  The list goes on and on.  It was also a year of milestones in many other ways as we sold my father in law’s home and said goodbye to an era of visiting 3325 Wilbur Drive. Chapters closed and new ones opened.

For the past two years I tried to choose 3 words to focus on during the year.  In 2011 my words were Embrace, Hope and Generosity  My song was “Wake Up Everybody”.   This past year my three words were Surrender, Rekindle and Bigger with my theme song being “Man in the Mirror”.   It has taken me a while to choose my words for 2013 but I think I have come up with some good ones for me.

Discipline–Oh boy—do I ever need this one!!!  I need discipline in every single area of my life!!!  I need discipline in my personal goals for myself and my health, in my spiritual life, in my writing life, in my home management. This discipline and focus can totally change the way 2013 plays out so I am going to definitely keep it at the forefront during each and every day.

Serve–I am a true believer that one can never serve too much. We have been blessed with so much in our lives and it is up to us to share it with whomever and wherever we have the opportunity.  I am reexamining some of the ways that I have been in service to others and making decisions about what is most helpful and what areas I need to prune from my life.  To those that have received much much is expected and I intend to continue to try to live that out to the best of my ability.  I am looking for new opportunities and areas to serve each day.

Stretch–Too often I find myself just blobbing along in life not really doing anything out of the ordinary (for me) and not challenging myself to take the plunge when I need to. This year I hope to stretch myself—-move beyond the comfortable and challenge myself with some new endeavors.  Complacency has become too easy for me—-I feel the need to challenge myself and move!

I also picked a song for the year which I think everyone can identify with.  It is not anything too deep or even spiritual but it is a good thing to remember to do at every chance.  Join me as we “Shower the People You Love With Love”

.

Thanks James Taylor

Tomorrow I will reveal the new Comments for a Cause and post how much “we” raised for Josh’s Yolka Project in December!

  1. Nice song choice and words! I have chosen three words to focus on this year as well . I can tell you one of the words I have chosen is one you did as well…serve! Happy New Year and continued blessings . xoxo

  2. Bravo. You are an inspiration.
And I am showering the people I love with love.

  3. Love you beth ann – amazing that you selected James Taylor for your theme song… He is alex’s theme song music. When we took Al to the vet we would always play james. now when I am missing for Alex I crank up james taylor…

    happy new year!

  4. Those are three great words, Beth Ann. That “D” word is something I need to focus on this year, too, then the rest should fall into place. There was a lot of depth in your words, “…goodbye to an era of visiting…” I know that feeling all too well.

    • I know you understand, Patti! It is the end of an era for sure and today as we put away decorations we got rid of the box with Dad’s handwriting on the outside of it where he had written Nativity. We have the beautiful nativity but decided the box needed to go by the wayside . It was a bit of a bittersweet moment.

  5. Terrific choices all. Best of luck with all that you do in 2013 Beth Ann. And for the last time (at least for now..) Happy New Year!

  6. What a great idea to choose three words and an inspirational song. I fully expect you to submit some of those “devotional” type blog posts for publication and then read the news here that your devotionals have been published. Alright?

You are so positive and that always kickstarts my day in the best of ways. Thank you for that gift.

    • Yep–that is indeed one of the goals!! Actually my hubby got me the book APE( http://apethebook.com) to get me motivated this year and our LLC board voted to fund said book! 🙂 Never mind that our LLC is comprised of the 4 of us family members! 🙂 Thank you for your support and friendship—it means a lot!

  7. Your blog really was exactly what I was thinking of as I was ready to write to my family how much it meant to me to have all of them at Christmas and sorry that one was not able to come. We missed him as he is a part of our family now. I love my family, everyone of them, so much.

  8. Great words for the coming year, Beth Ann–and the perfect song, as well. Hard to beat being showered with love, unless, perhaps, you’re the one doing the showering. I’ve been away from my blog over the holidays, but hope to get back into the swing of things in the coming days. Happy New Year to you, my friend.
    Hugs,
    Kathy

  9. Good luck for all you set out to do in 2013. I’m sure you can do anything you set your mind to. Wishing you all the best… much love, laughter, happiness and health.

  10. Happy New Year! I wish you luck with all of your goals in 2013!

  11. I love your three words. My own challenge for the new year is to use love and prayers as my weapons.

    • That is awesome,Virginia, but then I would expect nothing different from you! Happy New Year, my friend!!! Hope to get to see you one more time before Micah leaves JAX!

  12. Sounds like we’re all heading in the same direction in 2013! Happy New Year Beth Ann!
