First Day Nerves

Remember that first day of school? Remember the first time you had to speak in front of the class? How about your first date? Or the first day on the very first job? Today I am feeling some of those butterfly in the stomach emotions. But not for me. Mr. Diamond starts a new job today.  After 5 months of being together almost every single day we are now geographically separated. He's in Texas. I'm in Iowa.  It's a good thing.  Work is a very good thing.  A new job is really a … [Read more...]

The Ones Who Hold Your Heart

One of the truths in my life is that I have had to say a lot of goodbyes over the years. When I was young I grew up in a preacher's family.  In our family moving was just part of what life was all about. We really did not move all that often---I lived in 5 different towns from birth to college and that really did not seem like all that many different places to me. After marriage I have had the pleasure of exploring several areas of our great United States and even Australia. I have lived in 6 … [Read more...]

Storage Units and Birthday Bashes

It's official.  We are some of "those people" who are renting a storage unit!  Yikes.  How did we get there?  Quite simply put---we got there because Chris's dad's house in Ohio has sold and we don't have time to UHaul our treasures across the country right now.  Whew.  We had an exhausting but productive weekend and I wanted to share a bit of our adventures. Chris and I went and secured said storage unit on Saturday morning.  Great owner and great conversation.  I quipped to her that I bet … [Read more...]

Transitions Are Never Easy

Are you ready???  For the week??  For Christmas??  I am happy to say that I think that I am!  I "said" I would downsize it all this year since we are kind of in transition.  But as usual I lied.   Since we are going to be in Florida for the actual celebration I shipped all our packages to our eldest son's place in Jacksonville Beach.  UPS tracking told me that all 4 gigantic boxes arrived last night.  Never mind that I sent yet another one out yesterday.  Now that one included the cookies and … [Read more...]

So–How’s It REALLY Going?

Several of you have asked me "How is it going?".   Our lives have been in flux this year.  The first part we spent going back and forth from Iowa to Ohio to help out with Chris's dad whose health was failing. The second half of the year we actually relocated to the family home in Ohio and are in the throes of settling the estate following his death in August.  As many of you know Chris has a 42 year old brother with Down Syndrome who lived with his dad and can not live independently.  We are … [Read more...]

Do You Have A Plan?

I have been debating whether to write this post or not.  If you are reading it then I decided to click the "publish" button.  If you aren't reading it then I didn't.  :-) We seem to be at a place of transition in our lives.  Today my beloved father in law will move to a new home. Something that we had hoped would not happen but we are to the point where we can no longer manage his care at home with the children taking turns.   Today he will move to a nursing care facility.  It is not a … [Read more...]
