The Week in Review

I have had a fabulous week!!!!  My best friend in the whole wide world (Ann)  came to spend a week with me and we had a blast!  We started out with a day at the Mall of America and then had a great time spending time in Mason City, painting pottery, going to Cresco, Iowa to pick up the quilts that Doreen from Treadlemusic finished for me, going to a Chris Mann Concert at NIACC, and catching up for a lot of lost time.  Chris was the perfect hubby and tolerated our giggles and silliness and took … [Read more...]

Stuffed in a Trunk?

The adventure started on Wednesday morning.  My husband texted me and told me to be safe.  He had visions of me stuffed in a trunk and abandoned somewhere between Mason City and Cresco .  It is a fear he always has when I say "Hey---I am going to go meet a bloggy friend".   It is unfounded and silly but it has become our little joke.  Since I am writing this post you know that his dreaded fear did not come to fruition. What did come to fruition was a positively delightful day. I connected … [Read more...]

River City Sculptures on Parade–The Final Post

This week I have been sharing the sculptures that are featured here in Mason City for a special exhibit that the city is hosting. The sculptures are on display, voting is taking place and most of them are actually for sale also.  It was a fun afternoon checking them all out and snapping some shots of them.  Chris's brother, Carlton, had fun walking the tour with us and checking them all out.  We all picked our favorites and on Monday Carlton turned in our official ballots at the library .  Now … [Read more...]

River City Sculptures on Parade–Part 1

Mason City is home to a lot of great things----the last remaining Frank Lloyd Wright hotel--The Historic Park Inn which I blogged about here, many parks and recreation areas, a fabulous renovated library complete with coffee shop, The Stockman House, a wonderful historical area featuring Prairie School architecture in Rock Glen ( It is the largest collection of prairie style homes in a natural setting in the world), Music Man Square which pays homage to Meredith Willson of The Music Man fame and … [Read more...]

Shiver Me Timbers!

What do you do on a Saturday afternoon in August in Iowa?  Well go to a Pirate Festival, of course!  We wanted to do something fun with Carlton so off we went to Clear Lake to the Pirate Festival in PM Park.   If you have ever been to a Renaissance Festival this is basically it---except with a lot more pirates walking around.  It was not very crowded at all when we got there and the entertainment acts were begging folks to come sit down---well actually SCREAMING at us to sit down. Pirates are … [Read more...]

What Every Mother Desires

Chris and I have a tradition on Mother's Day.  The boys used to be a part of it although Aaron says he has no memory of this being our tradition so I guess it wasn't a very good one!!!  Church followed by a picnic which usually involved a drive through at Kentucky Fried Chicken.  Maybe not that healthy but it was what I always wanted to do. By Mother's Day you could usually count on the weather being fairly decent in whatever state we were in so it was a win win.   Add to it the gift of flowers … [Read more...]

Spinning Wheels and Mr. Sandman

We recently left our car at the Mason City airport whilst we were in Ohio and North Carolina.  I suggested that we put a snow shovel in the back for our return home as I anticipated we would be snowed in.  You know how it is in parking lots----snow plows plow your car in and since ours was going to be there 2 weeks i was positive that we would come back to a huge pile of snow and a buried car.   Well.....coming back to the airport took awhile due to a delayed flight which made us miss our … [Read more...]
