Move Over, Mom!

The following is a selection from a collection of memories that I am working on that include stories and thoughts of family and life experiences. This one is about my brother in law, Carlton, who has Down Syndrome. I would love to hear what you think. It is never easy to lose a loved one.  There are just so many emotions that come into play when grief is encountered.  Everyone handles it in their own way and most importantly--in their own time.  I do not think that anyone can say "you need to … [Read more...]

Is It Still Christmas?

Yesterday I was very excited because we were finally getting to celebrate Christmas with Chris's side of the family!  Yippee! There just was not time before Christmas and with getting Carlton all moved to his new home with Chris's sister and family it was just too much.  So we opted for yesterday. It was a little difficult to celebrate in the house with so many memories of Christmases past but all in all I think we did okay.  Carlton has settled into the the groove mostly in the new place and … [Read more...]

Transitions Are Never Easy

Are you ready???  For the week??  For Christmas??  I am happy to say that I think that I am!  I "said" I would downsize it all this year since we are kind of in transition.  But as usual I lied.   Since we are going to be in Florida for the actual celebration I shipped all our packages to our eldest son's place in Jacksonville Beach.  UPS tracking told me that all 4 gigantic boxes arrived last night.  Never mind that I sent yet another one out yesterday.  Now that one included the cookies and … [Read more...]

The second half of the year we actually relocated to the family home in Ohio and are in the throes of settling the estate following his death in August.  As many of you know Chris has a 42 year old brother with Down Syndrome who lived with his dad and can not live independently.  We are … [Read more...]

Resting at Last

Aaron, Dad, and Micah---Christmas 2009 My sweet father in law passed away Thursday morning at 5:00 am..  I shared with you all in a post last week   how difficult of a decision we had to make a week ago--the decision to put him in a nursing home because we just could not continue the care at home by ourselves even with the wonderful help of Hospice.  He lasted just about one week there and I cannot say enough about the level of love and care he received at Golden … [Read more...]

Today is the final day to make Comments for a Cause for the National Down Syndrome Society!!!!   I think this is going to be my best month for comments yet and I am very excited!!!!   The more comments made this month on any of my lame, uninspired  awesome posts the more I will donate to NDDS  And by "I" I mean my husband since he is the current bread winner in the family.  But he is behind me---right there with a huge loaf of french bread. :-)  So comment away....find a post and leave a … [Read more...]
