Our little group is growing by leaps and bounds! I am thrilled that this group that started out with just a few of us has started to grow and expand over the past few months. Quite honestly this group has changed my life and that is a fact. It seems that we love to get together. It does not have to be for a special event like our Lay's Tasting Party or our Oreo Tasting Party. It can be just getting together for a meal at The Barrel Drive In or going to visit a local business together. We … [Read more...]
Surf’s Up–2
Last week I posted about our winter time visit to The Surf Ballroom and Museum in Clear Lake, Iowa. It is a pretty amazing place but I saved the best part, in my humble opinion, for this post. We did not even know that this existed when we have been to The Surf for various concerts including BB King and Chicago. But it is there and the very best part of the entire place. I could have spent hours in the "green room" alone. For decades performers have been leaving their mark on the … [Read more...]
Surf’s Up!
When Chris was "between jobs" we tried to take in some of the sights around the area that we had not really seen. We ate in some new to us restaurants and tried to immerse ourselves in all things Iowa. One of our first stops was to visit The Surf Ballroom and Museum again. We have been there for various concerts but had never really been able to visit in the light of day. I would highly recommend this to anyone who happens to find themselves near Clear Lake, Iowa. It is an absolute fun way … [Read more...]
Yarn Bombing in North Iowa
A couple years ago I posted a post about Yarn Bombing---I was taken in by the great concept of "decorating" outside spaces with colorful yarn. I even saw some on a trip to Napa and posted a picture there. What fun it is to see creative people use their craft to beautify spaces. Last weekend Chris and I took a side trip to Clear Lake to see the Classic Car Show (that is a post for another day) and I asked him to stop at Central Gardens of North Iowa on the way out of town. I always like to … [Read more...]
Stuffed in a Trunk?
The adventure started on Wednesday morning. My husband texted me and told me to be safe. He had visions of me stuffed in a trunk and abandoned somewhere between Mason City and Cresco . It is a fear he always has when I say "Hey---I am going to go meet a bloggy friend". It is unfounded and silly but it has become our little joke. Since I am writing this post you know that his dreaded fear did not come to fruition. What did come to fruition was a positively delightful day. I connected … [Read more...]
Shiver Me Timbers!
What do you do on a Saturday afternoon in August in Iowa? Well go to a Pirate Festival, of course! We wanted to do something fun with Carlton so off we went to Clear Lake to the Pirate Festival in PM Park. If you have ever been to a Renaissance Festival this is basically it---except with a lot more pirates walking around. It was not very crowded at all when we got there and the entertainment acts were begging folks to come sit down---well actually SCREAMING at us to sit down. Pirates are … [Read more...]
Andy Winds Down His Iowa (and more) Adventure
It is time to send Andy on his way. I must admit I have hung on to him a tad bit longer than I probably should have but hey----we had a lot to do and see!!! Andy is going to be heading out to British Columbia next and will be staying with Darlene who writes over at Darlene Foster's Blog. You will definitely want to check it out. Don't forget Andy's mama---Lenore --over at Lenore's Thoughts Exactly---she is the one who started this, after all!!! We had a good time with Andy and will be sad … [Read more...]
What Every Mother Desires
Chris and I have a tradition on Mother's Day. The boys used to be a part of it although Aaron says he has no memory of this being our tradition so I guess it wasn't a very good one!!! Church followed by a picnic which usually involved a drive through at Kentucky Fried Chicken. Maybe not that healthy but it was what I always wanted to do. By Mother's Day you could usually count on the weather being fairly decent in whatever state we were in so it was a win win. Add to it the gift of flowers … [Read more...]
It’s A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
Got ya singing that song now, don't I? My goal is complete!!! But seriously--it is a beautiful day! I am sitting in the sunroom between services this morning listening to the hoards of geese flying overhead---they seem to know that something is coming....perhaps this warm weather won't last much longer but I sure am going to enjoy it while I can!!! Chris and I went to an awesome concert in Clear Lake last night. Chris has always been a huge fan of the Christian group Selah and since they … [Read more...]
