Signs on the Pavement of Things to Come

When I came home from Minneapolis on Wednesday I had to dodge orange cones or witches hats as they call them in Australia. The road that goes in front of our house was littered with them --carefully protecting the newly painted signs on the pavement that signaled to me that something big is going to be passing through Mason City in July. RAGBRAI is a big deal. When we first moved here I heard talk of RAGBRAI but had absolutely no idea what it was.  It is a non competitive bicycle race across … [Read more...]

Fridge Top 5

What do you ALWAYS have in your fridge?  Today I thought I would share the top 5 things that you can always find in my refrigerator. 1. Almond Milk.   I am not a milk drinker at all and when the hubby said we should try Almond Milk I was not impressed.  I figured it would be icky and not tasty. Boy, was I ever wrong!  Not only is it wonderful the shelf life is so much longer than regular milk that I don't waste it nearly as much as when we were buying the regular milk.  It is easier on the … [Read more...]

Loyalty

I have been getting comments lately about my key chain. I don't know why all of the sudden people are noticing it but they are. What do you think? Would you notice and comment on it? I suspect it is really not the adorable red B fob or the almost worn off I <3 NC with a smiley face bead that folks are noticing but instead all of my "loyalty" key tags. I was thrilled when places started letting go of the credit card sized cards that linked you to their store and were vehicles for … [Read more...]

The Ones Who Hold Your Heart

One of the truths in my life is that I have had to say a lot of goodbyes over the years. When I was young I grew up in a preacher's family.  In our family moving was just part of what life was all about. We really did not move all that often---I lived in 5 different towns from birth to college and that really did not seem like all that many different places to me. After marriage I have had the pleasure of exploring several areas of our great United States and even Australia. I have lived in 6 … [Read more...]

The Sands of Time

Anyone out there feeling overwhelmed recently? If my Facebook newsfeed, tweets, blog reader and emails tell me anything it is that a lot of folks have started out 2014 with a bang and not necessarily in a good way.  I don't have to put on my Nancy Drew detective hat to make that conclusion. Are we all on overload?  Is it just the world that we live in today that helps promote the frenzy? And then the worry takes over. Oh yes. That worry that wakes you up in the middle of the night … [Read more...]

How Others See Us

My brain has been swirling around all over the place this week and it seems that I can't settle in to write a blog post for the life of me.  Too many ideas bouncing around in there some days but none that I can really write about quite yet. An Australian friend posted a cartoon on her Facebook page the other day and it hit me a little bit hard.   The cartoon was of a computer with the caption "Reboot America with no guns and free health insurance".   Ouch.  I usually shy aware from … [Read more...]
