Confessions Tour

I am thrilled today to highlight one of my favorite authors---T.B. Markinson.  You might recall that I have featured her on It's Just Life before and you can read those posts by clicking here and here.  I first "met" her when I found her somehow (that is still a bit hazy to me how I first found her!) and started following her travel blog and we forged a friendship across the pond.  Today I am thrilled to offer a little interview as part of her Confessions Tour.  Please join me in welcoming T.B. … [Read more...]

Driftless

Driftless---having no aim or direction. This past weekend I found myself in a state of driftlessness.  My plans changed dramatically due to Mother Nature and I found myself without a schedule and itinerary.  It was odd.  A bit disconcerting. Saturday I awoke at the usual normal hour of 6 am and could not fall back asleep.  The mind was working overtime mulling over the events of the past day. I like a plan.  Chris and I are definitely planners.  Our lives have always needed to be … [Read more...]

A New Use for the Loo

Awhile ago when Chris and I were on a little vacation in Southport, NC we ate at a cute little restaurant on the water.  I excused myself before the food arrived to go avail myself of the facilities.  I was trying to pre-empt my brother in law Carlton's theory of "food in--food out".  But that is a story for another day. I found my way through the restaurant to the restroom and stepped inside a stall.  It was a smallish bathroom with only 2 stalls and as I was in my private space a woman and … [Read more...]

Words of Wisdom

Last week I posed a question on my Facebook page asking people what their favorite quotes were.  Wow!  What a great response!  While I knew of many of them there were quite a few that were brand spanking new to me and I love that! So today join with me as I share what many of my friends (and their friends) shared as their favorite quotes.  Find a new favorite one today.   The first one is mine. "The true test of a person's spiritual life and character is not what he does in the … [Read more...]

You Say Tomato, I Say Tomato

Did you read the title of that correctly?  I know you did!  Today's post is all about words. All about language and some quirks that you may or may not know. I love words.  I love how I can learn new words every single day.  I never will run out of learning new words and apparently there are even more new words that are acceptable. According to this CNN article there is now a new Official Scrabble dictionary that has added 5,000 new words including "selfie" and "hashtag".   Now if my Words … [Read more...]

Summertime and the Living is Easy

Summer is in full swing.  Vacation.  Lemonade. Sunny skies.  It's all good, isn't it? What are your favorite things about summer? Some of mine are: Beautiful sunrises and sunsets.  They just seem magnified in the summer for me.  The longer days allow me to enjoy them just a little bit longer. Farmer's Markets.  In a word---yum.  So much variety and so much freshness. Freshly mown grass.   I love the smell.  I love the look.  I love the lawn maintenance service that magically makes … [Read more...]

Blog Hop Around the World

I was invited by the wonderful Patti Jarrett from A New Day Dawns to join in the fun of a Blog Hop Around the World.  I told her I would join in but as I write this I am not sure how great of a post it will be.  Typical Beth Ann fashion---I jump in and say yes without really thinking it through but I will give it a good ole try. I guess the hardest thing for me was to think about what "creative" thing I wanted to focus on in this post.  I do a bit of writing, a bit of photography and a bit of … [Read more...]

Living for the Journey

I read a blog prompt somewhere that asked the question "Do you live for the destination or the journey?" My initial response, as a Christian, was the destination. Who does not long for heaven? A place where there is no cancer or Alzheimers, no poverty or discrimination, no hatred or sadness. A place that I imagine is pretty much perfect---whatever that perfect place is for you--that is what I imagine it to be. For me I think there will be lots of music and lots of smiley faces floating around. … [Read more...]

What NOT To Say

Recently a friend was commenting that someone said something totally inappropriate to an individual who had recently suffered a loss.  In this case it was a death and the remark was one of those ones that people say ALL the time but don't really understand the impact of the words on the grieving individual.  I have been guilty of it and I would hazard a guess that everyone reading this post has at one time or another made the same blunder. I went to school to be a social worker.  Not that I … [Read more...]

Deadlines

How do you feel about deadlines?  I found myself in a place the other day that I would rather not be. I was putting time limits on God.  I was telling Him that in my perfect world (remember If I Ran The Zoo?) things would be so perfect if only this and so happened by such a date and time. Well guess what?  God gently reminded me that HE is in charge, not me.   The things that "I" was trying to orchestrate are totally out of my control so why was I trying?  Why was I putting undue stress … [Read more...]
