Driftless

Driftless---having no aim or direction. This past weekend I found myself in a state of driftlessness.  My plans changed dramatically due to Mother Nature and I found myself without a schedule and itinerary.  It was odd.  A bit disconcerting. Saturday I awoke at the usual normal hour of 6 am and could not fall back asleep.  The mind was working overtime mulling over the events of the past day. I like a plan.  Chris and I are definitely planners.  Our lives have always needed to be … [Read more...]

Two Planes, A Couple of Storms and a VRBO Scam = Interesting Day

It was supposed to be a romantic weekend.  Mr. Diamond and I were meeting in Chicago for the weekend.  He was coming from Texas and I was taking the short flight from Cedar Rapids to Chicago so I would not have to mess with driving in Chicago.  We were meeting at the airport and then getting a rental car to take us to our VRBO (Vacation Rental By Owner) house in Oak Park. Not only was I super excited because not only would I spend a weekend with my husband, I was also going to be able to tour … [Read more...]

A New Use for the Loo

Awhile ago when Chris and I were on a little vacation in Southport, NC we ate at a cute little restaurant on the water.  I excused myself before the food arrived to go avail myself of the facilities.  I was trying to pre-empt my brother in law Carlton's theory of "food in--food out".  But that is a story for another day. I found my way through the restaurant to the restroom and stepped inside a stall.  It was a smallish bathroom with only 2 stalls and as I was in my private space a woman and … [Read more...]

Making Memories

Last week I told you about the upcoming Malt Shop Memories Street Dance and live broadcast at KCMR coming up on Friday night and I know you are all waiting with baited breath to hear all about it.  In a word----FABULOUS! Jeni of Jeni Eats and Donna of DonnaHup.com stopped off to pick me up to go down to the studio to join in the fun.  We saw lots of familiar faces including Bill Schickel, general manager at KCMR and Cynthia Tompkins whose show I get to be a part of on Tuesday … [Read more...]

Let’s Super Size This! Your Chance to Save a Landmark!

I often wonder why I am the last one to find out about some things.  I try to keep up with the news and the goings on in the world but at times I am basically clueless about the things that are practically in my own back yard.  How did I not know about The Barrel Drive In in Clear Lake---a mere 5 miles from my house? Thanks to a recent social media blitz and with the company of good friends I am now much more educated.  And that, my friends, is a very good thing.  Especially when it comes to … [Read more...]

Recapitulation

I took a few days off and I am very glad that I did.  I did not totally disconnect from social media---I still posted a few tweets, Facebook statuses and even checked on a few blogs but I did not write any posts.  Mr. Diamond came home and the above picture shows that the whole weekend was a thumbs up! The first thing I realized was that Chris was coming in on Thursday instead of Friday like I thought!  It helps if you actually look at the email with the ticket info, right?  It's all good---I … [Read more...]

From Kermit to Cookies

Whew.  I am exhausted.  Mind you I don't have much to be exhausted about.  Other than that pesky getting the house ready to sell  thing which aside from being a lot of work is a tad bit emotional. I love this house. I love our animal friends that come to visit our yard. I love our deck. I love our neighbors even if their yard always looks a bazillion times better than ours. I love finding treasures when I clean out the closets that are filled to the max. I could very easily … [Read more...]

Time Brings Changes

I have not regaled you with any Carlton stories for awhile but the truth is that since we no longer have the day to day contact with him like when we were living in Ohio taking care of him the stories are few and far between.  Add to the fact that our sweet Carlton is aging and showing the signs of aging and the stories are stories of a different type. The stories now are more stories that are centered around his changing behavior.  Our once outgoing and talkative Carlton is now far more … [Read more...]

Sometimes First Class Isn’t

My recent trip home from Texas was….how shall we say ….interesting.  You never know what you are going to encounter when you travel these days and this trip was the perfect example of how the unexpected is just that. Unexpected.  But it makes great content for a blog post so feel free to pour yourself a glass of iced tea (maybe even sweet tea to salute Texas) and settle in for a spell while I weave my yarn. The day started out early with Chris dropping me off at the Dallas Fort Worth airport. … [Read more...]

Summertime and the Living is Easy

Summer is in full swing.  Vacation.  Lemonade. Sunny skies.  It's all good, isn't it? What are your favorite things about summer? Some of mine are: Beautiful sunrises and sunsets.  They just seem magnified in the summer for me.  The longer days allow me to enjoy them just a little bit longer. Farmer's Markets.  In a word---yum.  So much variety and so much freshness. Freshly mown grass.   I love the smell.  I love the look.  I love the lawn maintenance service that magically makes … [Read more...]
