“Home” with Rachel Smith

I have had the extreme pleasure to meet a lot of great folks in the past year or so in Iowa.  It is funny that it has taken this long for me to find some really great people but what it all boils down to is social media and my blogger friend Sara from It's All in An Iowa Mom's Day and Travel with Sara.  Sara wanted to get people in our area talking and connecting through various social media platforms and she has now built her own business (Social Connections, LLC) around what she has learned. … [Read more...]

Things That Make Me Laugh Out Loud

Cats in clothes.   When we were growing up we always had a plethora of cats around.  One of the favorite things to do was to put them in doll clothes.  I am not sure how smart that was but it was fun to see our "Mama to Many Kittens -Peek" modeling a dress.  The boy cats did not get left out.  I still have memories of stacking model car tires on tails of poor unsuspecting cats and watching them flip them all over the yard. There was technique to it because you had to hold the tip of the tail … [Read more...]

Who Influences You?

I have had a lot of folks who have influenced me through the years and set examples for me.  I have been so blessed by being surrounded all of my life by warm, loving and supportive people.  If I have gotten anywhere in this life it is due to all of those folks who have nurtured and loved me for who I am and who I am still becoming. Recently I had the pleasure of spending a couple of hours with some folks in North Carolina who have helped shape my life in a lot of ways. They were all there … [Read more...]

Teapot Tuesday–Bermuda Style

Today's teapot is pretty special. I know that I say that about all of my teapots in my collection but this one really is.  I picked up this sweet little teapot on our recent trip to Bermuda and as I watch the snow fall today I am wishing I was back on that island.  The really neat thing about this teapot is that it has a story. Now look at this signature on the bottom of this sweet Bermuda teapot. Yes, that would be THE Carol Holding. One of the things that Mr. Diamond did in … [Read more...]

Come on –Get Happy

I have been obsessed with this song lately but then yesterday I stumbled across this video and I became even more obsessed!  It was made in honor of World Down Syndrome Day (March 21) and is so fun I had to share it.  I was a bit disturbed that the spelling of syndrome was incorrect until my friend, Susi, told me it was the German spelling and that it was obviously filmed in Germany.  I was clueless and thanks to Susi now I know!!!  By the way, today is Susi's birthday so show her some love by … [Read more...]

6 Years Later–A Giveaway

When I started this blog 6 years ago today I had no idea what joy it would bring.  I started out on Blogger with a blog called Beth Ann's Musings and in 3 years time I migrated my blog to WordPress and renamed it It's Just LIfe--Finding the Extraordinary in the Ordinary.  I have never looked back. Over the 6 years we have been on a bit of an adventure.   I have posted 1866 posts and have recorded 22,824 comments on my blog posts over that time (that includes my own comments/responses).  I … [Read more...]

Who Couldn’t Use a Mug O’ Comfort About Now?

After the week that I had last week I think I could use a Mug O' Comfort and I suspect a lot of you out there in the blogosphere could also!  Thanks to Sincerely, Jenni who alerted me to this fabulous Swap from Chaotic Goddess Swaps!   It has been a really long time since I have done a swap of any kind and I jumped at the chance to do this one.   Maybe you will, too.   It is really quite simple.   Hop over to the blog post at Chaotic Goddess, read the rules of the swap and if you … [Read more...]

Bug Out—Er–Bug Over to Cole’s

What do I love? I love seeing young people who have great ideas. I love seeing young people who put those great ideas into action. Enter one Cole Ruscitti, a senior who attends Chicago Waldorf School.  I met Cole through his mom, Katybeth, who writes one of my favorite blogs over at Odd Loves Company. Cole had to have a senior project.  Like many seniors these days these projects can take on many forms from doing a community service type project to, as in Cole's case, modifying … [Read more...]

The Ones Who Hold Your Heart

One of the truths in my life is that I have had to say a lot of goodbyes over the years. When I was young I grew up in a preacher's family.  In our family moving was just part of what life was all about. We really did not move all that often---I lived in 5 different towns from birth to college and that really did not seem like all that many different places to me. After marriage I have had the pleasure of exploring several areas of our great United States and even Australia. I have lived in 6 … [Read more...]
