Making Memories

Last week I told you about the upcoming Malt Shop Memories Street Dance and live broadcast at KCMR coming up on Friday night and I know you are all waiting with baited breath to hear all about it.  In a word—-FABULOUS!

Jeni of Jeni Eats and Donna of DonnaHup.com stopped off to pick me up to go down to the studio to join in the fun.  We saw lots of familiar faces including Bill Schickel, general manager at KCMR and Cynthia Tompkins whose show I get to be a part of on Tuesday mornings.

Sara from All in an Iowa Mom’s Day and Travel with Sara showed up and Bill Schickel took a great picture of us as the festivities were getting underway.

The music was fun and lively and while the “dance floor” was not crowded all the time we were there there were certainly plenty of folks around enjoying the tunes.  We had a blast.  The music was the perfect street dance music—–easy to dance to for even those of us who are a little shy about our dancing abilities.

P1030096Bill was great at getting folks out on the street to dance!  Donna took a couple of turns with Bill and held her own!

But my favorite picture of the night has to be the following one.  The expression on Bill’s face is pure joy!

My favorite shot of the night!!! Look at how much fun Bill Schickel is having!

Aside from seeing my friends I also happened to run into one of my favorite NIVC employees—Aaron.  Love this guy and he even wanted to take a selfie with me so how could I turn that down?  How handsome is he?

I would venture to say there was a fun time had by all in attendance as these pictures will attest to.

Did I mention there were ice cream sundaes by Birdsall’s??  Yum! Hot fudge sundaes with pecans —so yummy but I forgot to take a picture as I was trying to juggle camera, phone, purse and ice cream without ending up wearing it.

Our radio show hosts for the Malt Shop Memories Bill Rappe and Kaye Steger made the evening a huge success!!! (Even if I did get a very good picture of them!)

P1030113What a fun night and what a great event for Mason City put on by KCMR.  Don’t forget–you can always listen online by going to their website here.

There were even some vintage cars and this lovely motorcycle! kcmr7

Aaron told me his favorite song was Lollipop by The Chordettes and I saw him singing across the way when they played it right before I left for home.  I think he was in heaven when they played it.

  1. Looks like so much fun….. hope someone there “tore up” that piano! It looked like it was just waiting for someone to pound out some ragtime!

    • I don’t know if anyone played it or not—it is one of the 3 or 4 that are around town that are just there for people to play. Fun little project someone did this summer..

  2. What a great, fun, event!

  3. Absolutely delightful. The best part for me? That poodle skirt. Yes, I had one — and bobby sox, too!

  4. Looks like fun Beth Ann and great seeing all your smiling faces! That is one cool bike!

  5. Becky Miracle says:

OH what a fun night! Nothing like those “Oldies”! They are still my favorite, but probably because I am officially old now! LOL Thanks for sharing! Always love to see what you post each day.

  6. Helen Brown says:

Thanks for sharing the pictures and the song with us. I really enjoyed Lollipop.

  7. Looks like an absolute blast! The bee’s knees! 😉

  9. What a fun event and so good you were able to meet up with other blogging buddies. Love the hot pink pooddle skirt outfit.

  10. What a fun night. Bill sure knows how to dance!

  11. Looks like a wonderful time. I liked what I could see of the black truck that showed up in the background of some photos.

  12. I’m not into dancing, but that ice cream sounds good! It does look like everyone was enjoying themselves!

  13. Aw, too bad Mr. Diamond had to miss out on this one — looks like FUN!

  14. Thanks for the great post, Beth Ann! Thanks all for for joining us!

  15. Dancing, eating ice cream, 50’s music, good company… what more could you have wanted? Well your Texas dance partner for sure, but you held your own and made the most of what looks like a gee whiz, golly good time. Cool beans!

  16. looked like a really great time! we had a little festival in our town this past weekend and there was live music playing. everyone was sitting or standing around listening, and I looked at my daughters and they looked at me….. and then we started dancing around like fools. Soon enough – others joined! best. ever.

    • It just takes one!!!! A lot of the folks that were there were not in any physical shape to dance but there were lots that did. I took my pathetic turn at the twist but was hindered by having a purse to hold! 🙂

  17. Looks like a lot of fun! Thank goodness the weather was good!
