I am a little late in posting today but I am finally getting to the exciting news about Comments for a Cause. For the past 2 1/2 years I have featured a different cause each month on It’s Just Life and for every comment made during that month on any blog post I have donated 50 cents to that featured cause.  My husband and I are thrilled with the response that this has elicited and each month the perfect cause seems to appear. In September I chose Samaritan’s Purse—specifically their work in the Sudan establishing wells for clean water in honor of a dear friend who is fighting ovarian cancer.  You read my post here that adds more details about this great cause.  This is a cause that is near and dear to Betty’s heart and it seemed only appropriate to honor her with a donation to this great organization.   I am thrilled to announce that I will be making a donation of $250 to Samaritan’s Purse for their Sudan water project!  Thanks to all who have commented this month.  I picked up a few readers/commenters and I am so very grateful to each and every one of you!

Drum roll ….please!!!!  You can tell by my “cover picture” above that this month will be devoted to breast cancer awareness, research and education.   I have several friends who are survivors and I am thrilled that October is the official “Pink” month.  This year my Comments for a Cause for October will go to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation for their efforts in research and education.  A whopping 91% of their donations go directly to research and awareness and when navigating the number of Breast Cancer related sites this has to be the one that sticks out as one of the best with an A+ rating.  Another site which is a great resource in determining where to donate is on the Takepart website and you can access it by cllcking here.  There are so many great organizations available but it is a good idea to check them out via Charity Navigator  to see if what they do is what you want to contribute to.

There are a plethora  of companies and organizations that contribute to Breast Cancer Awareness during the month of October with different specials and incentives.  I would love to keep an updated list here of any that you know of that do specials during the month to help support this cause.  If you know of one that I have not listed please leave a link in the comments so we can all support them.

Two that are my personal favorites include efforts made by two friends.  First off—Rachael Kosko of The Knotty Nanny will be donating 100% of all profits of hats ordered during the month to BCRF (great minds think alike!) .  Rachael does a FABULOUS job and you can cruise her Facebook page–just look under photos for what she has to offer by clicking here.  She has an order form on her Facebook page as well by clicking    Rachael is so gifted and can make just about anything you come up with.  If you don’t see something you like or if you have a pattern you would like her to do–just ask!!!  knotty nanny You can email her at and tell her I sent you!!!  She is absolutely one of the most talented people I know when it comes to yarn art!  Order your hat now—remember all hats ordered during October will help fund research for breast cancer.

The other friend  who helps promote breast cancer awareness this month is Rebecca Miracle who is a Longaberger consultant.  If you remember I made a visit to Longaberger Mecca this past summer so you know that I love their products!  There is always a Basket of Hope and other specials during the month of October which pay tribute to the theme of the month—pink!

These specials will be available Oct 2-8

These specials will be available Oct 2-8

There are so many great items available but the pink themed ones are especially important this month.  Go show Becky some love and make sure if you make a purchase that you put her name in as the consultant if this link does not work right for some reason.  Rebecca Miracle–not too difficult to remember!

Other places that do various things to support Breast Cancer Awareness this month include:

  1. Panera Bread offers a Ribbon Bagel—proceeds of sales go to area Breast Cancer Funds  (they don’t have it on their main site yet but they always do it!)
  2. Delta Airlines does many things to promote Breast Cancer Awareness including having a pink plane (click here to read about it)  Delta is my preferred airline and I always look forward to flying in October because the employees all sport pink in their uniforms and offer customers the chance to make a difference in different opportunities to give.  If you have to fly check them out this month!
  3. Estee Lauder offers a special line of products that feature a pink theme and helps to further breast cancer research and awareness. Thanks to Gen Fabber, Barbara Younger for this link!
  4. Avon also offers products, including a cute necklace, in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.
  5. Ulta offers a line of “pink” products as well and you can access these by clicking on this link.
  6. 3M–from pink sticky notes to self exam reminders 3M has a lot to offer.
  7. Ralph Lauren  has Pink Pony shirts—25% of purchase price goes to breast cancer initiatives.  (thanks to Gen Fabber Shelley Zureck for these last 3)
  8. KIND Snacks  has a great offer going on–for every BFFLBag sold  (Best Friends for Life) KIND will donate $5 to Friends Fighting Breast Cancer.  These are great little goodie bags that contain a specially-designed axillapilla® comfort pillow; wound and drain care supplies; mybody®  skin care gift pack; Bio-Oil® moisturizing scar treatment; toiletries, organizing tools and instructions; a box of 12 KIND bars; and more.  What a great gift to someone going through a challenging diagnosis!  Thanks to Gen Fabber Kim Byars Croisant for this one—I never would have known about it!

Please include your links to other places that go above and beyond this month in the fight against breast cancer.  I would love to see them all and share them.  Let’s fill the page and while we are at it—-make some comments to help fund BCRF!!!  Thanks so much!

  1. Congratulations, Beth Ann! $250 is a lot of money. And Samaritan’s Purse is a fine organization. They did a lot of good work in Haiti while we were there and are associated with the Billy Graham Association. Hope this month is even better than last!

    Hugs from Ecuador,

    • Thanks, Kathy! I do love Samaritan’s Purse. I had planned to go on a trip to deliver shoeboxes but that fell through. 😦 Someday. They do a lot of good in a lot of ways and I was so happy to honor Betty this way!

  3. Rachael Kosko says:

I will definitely be looking up Rebecca’s site! I’d love to order a basket for my cousin who inspired me to start my fundraiser 2 years ago after being diagnosed with breast cancer and over coming it. Thank you for all of the good deeds you do!

  4. Becky Miracle says:

  7. Amy Prentice says:

Thank you Beth Ann for supporting a great cause again (as you do every month)…this one touches me personally and I feel with all the research and the fact I had a very bad cancer cell, I was able to survive ten years this year due to all the research and great doctors out there!!!! I will be checking out these links you have posted! I love supporting the breast cancer foundation yay!!!

    • So happy to be able to celebrate your 10 years ! That is a milestone and such a good thing. Am so happy that this is the cause this month—there are so many places that do good things to help with research.

  8. WOW! $250.00, thank you again for choosing the water project through Samaritan’s Purse. And you made me feel very special this month. Thanking God that He chose for our paths to cross years ago and for you still being a part of my life, even in Ohio.:-) Thank you for your cards, emails, words of encourgement and always your prayers.

  9. Wonderful contribution from last month and Breast Cancer Awareness needs to be kept near and dear to all our hearts. Thanks for doing just that… I will have to check out the other crafty links.

  10. That is just wonderful news! A great donation to Samaritan’s Purse and a worthy cause for October. I think we have all know someone who has been affected by breast cancer. I have a friend fitting it right now. Bless you for doing this Beth Ann.

  11. Thanks once again for your generosity. There are so many companies who work to raise awareness and fund breast cancer research. Love the hats, too!

    • Thank you, Patti!!! Once I got started finding places that did things I realized how long my blog post was going to be! Thanks for sticking with me! And The Knotty Nanny is fabulous!

  12. Wow! You are doing awesome and it benefits people all over the world. Congrats for last month and I’m excited about this month’s charity as well. Come on people, leave comments!

    • Thanks so much, TBM! I always get excited on the first of the month and I think it is so great how many companies and individuals do special things during October!

  13. An excellent cause as I expect all of us have been touched by breast cancer in some way. I just checked out The Knotty Nanny’s yarn art and you are right. Incredible creations. I especially like the Nativity set and the pig.

Thanks to you and Chris for your generous support of so many causes through the years. You two are the best.

    • Thank you, Audrey! I know that it is something that touches everyone in some way—-and I believe that someday there will be an answer to it. We have already made such strides in treatment. And yes–Rachael is very gifted!!! She is my nieces’s sister in law—actually she is a twin to her husband. Follow that?? In any case last year she donated $400! I need to pick my hat out now!

  14. Another great place I found out about is They offer a great line of pajamas for WOMEN!!!! This is their descriptionMoisture Wicking Sleepwear, Wicking Pajamas, Menopause Pajamas,FOR MENOPAUSE SYMPTOMS, NIGHT SWEATS & HOT FLASHES
I think I know a lot of ladies who could use those. All year they give a percentage of sales to Breast Cancer Awareness but during October they double their sales!!! Thanks to Harilee Weintrab for the info!!! Check them out at

  15. I think you chose the right cause for the month. You checked it out so you know what amount really goes for the resurch and education. Many do not give that high of a percentage,

  16. Congratulations to Samaritan’s Purse and to the Breast Cancer Research Fund for being selected as this month’s Comments for a Cause.

  17. This is fabulous and as you may have seen already because of your little badge at the bottom I am now sporting a pink blog!!! I may not have much money to give but I have recently come to the conclusion that I have a voice and I can use that to help in my own small way. I happen to love KIND bars and have a mom who works for Estee Lauder – so I’m aware of what they do to help out!!!

    • That is awesome!!! I love the turn everything pink idea even if my blog is red. 🙂 And a big YES to you being able to use your voice to make a difference! Absolutely! It is not always about money, that is for sure! Good for you!

  18. This is a wonderful thing you are doing! And thanks for the list of companies that make a difference! Keep up the great work!

    • Well thanks to YOU for stopping by and taking the time to comment! Sometimes it is difficult to discern where to donate money and the list really helped me define that a bit. Thanks again for the positive feedback! It means a lot!

  19. What a wonderful way to support the cause – your posts are truly wonderful! Thanks for directing me over here from my post on
