We have yet another new gadget in our household—-it is a Nest.  Our son got one and now we have one.  Oh happy joy joy!  What is a Nest, you ask???  THIS is a Nest….

It is a fancy schmancy thermostat that was designed by a former top designer for Apple (Tony Fadell) which explains the sleek and cool looking design.  It is a WiFi enabled device that learns what your habits are and adjusts to accommodate those. After just a week of setting it manually it will start to adjust the temperature to save energy and fit in with what the daily routine around the house is.  The plus side is that you can access it from your iPhone with a really great app that allows you to control the thermostat from wherever you are.

The red color denotes that it is heating.  When it is blue it is cooling. Whenever you approach it it lights up so you can see what temperature it is at and what it is doing at the moment.  Pretty cool, huh?   It will be a great thing to be able to have when we have been gone and don’t want to come home to a chilly house—turn the thermostat up or down depending on the season for whatever you choose it to be.  Pretty amazing.  But perhaps the most amazing thing—–it was installed exactly according to plan and in under the time estimate of half an hour!!!   Thank you, God, for being married to an electrical engineer!

The only down side I can see has already been tested……the husband can adjust it while I am at home and he is not—–making me wonder why the heck I am so cold all of the sudden……funny, funny man.

  1. Ah, there’s a down-side to technology, I suppose. I wouldn’t be able to operate it either. I have admit, that I’d never heard of a “nest.” Pretty cool–I mean, warm. You know what I mean. LOL

    • It is a neat thing actually and since we seemed to have trouble with the old programmable thermostat this seemed like a great answer—so far so good! Other than a husband who likes to mess with my little mind!

  2. Ha ha ha. Yeah, my hubby would do the same. I’d be freezing all of the time! It’s pretty amazing what we can do with technology these days.

  3. Ah, heating and cooling, always a point of contention in our home. He wants it warmer. I want it cooler. Does this gadget solve that problem? 🙂

    • Well not exactly if you have those issues but it will adjust according to your “habits” so if YOU have control of it for a week it will adjust to YOU! So don’t let him near it! 🙂

  4. This would cause problems for me. I live with a practical joker and I would either be freezing or burning up all of the time.

  5. oh my Left Brain’d mate would have a field day with that!! He cannot stand it being too hot…..his 6th sense that I have turned on the fireplace while he as at work would kick in, and he’d be switching it to “cool” so that the house wouldn’t be too hot for him. I don’t know that our marriage would survive this device! LOL

  6. Now that’s Cool, or warm, whatever..

  7. Sounds great to me as I have a terrible time reading my thermostat when I get too hot or too cold.

  8. Wow, what will they think of next?! You are always on the cutting edge of technology. You’ll have to figure a way to jam Chris’ phone signals! lol

  9. Love that Chris still loves you enough to play practical jokes on you!

I love your comments--each one makes me smile and makes a difference for Comments for a Cause! Thanks!
