Oreos and Kit Kats Japanese Style

Not too long ago I posted a picture of some Green Tea Oreos that I had found in the paper.  You can see the post here.  I was thrilled that they made Oreos in such a neat flavor that seemed to be right up my alley.  I contacted my friend, Mr. Google, to see what I could find and lo and behold I found something on Mr. Ebay that was a pretty close match to what the article pictured.  After a little time with my other friend, Mr. Paypal, I had placed an order and my Japanese friend was going to be sending me some delightful and tasty concoctions.

Or so I thought.  Oh they arrived in record time and even came with a sweet note and free tea bag of green tea but the actual products were a bit of a disappointment when it came to taste.  Maybe I had built my taste buds up too much but the exotic treats were not anything that I would buy again even if they were available in the US for a fraction of the cost.   The green tea Oreo sticks were probably the hugest disappointment.  Perhaps the full on Oreo cookies would have offered more a flavor burst but the sticks were just ho hum—a bit of chocolate with an after taste of green tea….nothing to write home about.  Probably the most disgusting thing was the general appearance of the Green Tea Kit Kat.  Kit Kats are not supposed to be green….just saying.  It just tasted waxy–not flavorful at all and definitely not chocolate which is how I believe all Kit Kats should be.   I will save my money next time.

  1. That’s too bad. Better luck next time.

  2. well… at least you can say you tried

  3. Gotta love Asia! I say that having lived in Vietnam for a year. I can say, however, that I never saw anything like this–even in Narita–but then I wasn’t looking during the few hours I spent in the Tokyo airport.
    GREAT post, Beth Ann!
    Hugs,
    Kathy

    • I guess I thought they would be more flavorful but Chris always tells me that the Asian food is a little blander than what we are used to—gotta spice it up!

  4. Aren’t you adventurous. Life is full of experiences. And thanks to your two good friends, you can bring those experiences home.

Beth Ann…you were a very brave soul! I do not want my chocolate mixed in other concoctions lol! You get a “star” for being adventurous and doing the taste test for us all!

  6. Helen Brown says:

They don’t even sound good to me, but I am not too fond of green tea.

  7. As much as I love the color green, I agree that Kit Kats should be chocolate.

  8. Aw man! You were so excited about your special treats! I was looking forward to hearing your rave review. How many more Oreos and Kit Kats do you have leftover?

  9. Hmmmm. Not too sure about that green tea Kit Kat. Looks like the treat I give the dog to clean his teeth! 🙂 Thanks for your bravery in testing out new treats!

  10. That Kit Kat definitely does NOT look appetizing. My granddaughter and friend tried some similar flavors in China, and neither was impressed. I hoped yours would be better.

  11. I would have been put off just by the appearance of these treats! I’m sorry they weren’t everything you hoped for. My sweets are so budgeted right now (by hubby) I wouldn’t want to waste them on bad treats.

  12. Sorry to hear that you were disappointed but at least you tried, right? Now you won’t have to sit and wonder… And I agree, there is just something wrong with green Kit Kat!!!
