Showers of Comments

You are all so wonderful!  I have the best bloggy friends in the world and I am so excited to report that for the April Comments for a Cause I received 402 comments on my blog ( I also include any comments made on my Facebook page on those posts) so that means that I will be making a donation of  $201.00 to Ada First United Methodist Church for their rebuilding project after the devastating fire that destroyed their building.   If you missed the post about it you can read all about it here.  I am confident that over the next couple of years they will grow stronger as a faith community as they rebuild.

It always seems like I run across the PERFECT charity right when I need a new one.  That is so the case for my May Comments for a Cause recipient.  I saw a random post on Facebook by my niece and investigated more and found the perfect place that I want to donate in May.

Operation Shower is about celebrating and honoring military families.  Operation Shower is a  501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides joyful baby showers for military families to ease the burden of deployment.

Operation Shower is THE perfect charity for me to support this month.  As a newlywed I was a Navy wife and was part of a wonderful community of support on the Orlando base that we lived.  Those connections are still part of my life today and I hold those friendships very dear.  No one can understand what a deployment of a loved one can mean until they have gone through it. I did not but I had many friends whose life was one deployment after another.  Add into the mix that many times a pregnancy is incubating while the loved one is deployed and it adds a whole other dimension to the mix.   Operation Shower celebrates with the expectant family by providing baby showers with wonderful gifts–currently they are doing group showers at different locations instead of individual showers  because of the logistics.   For more information please check out their website at Operation Shower.

I will be contributing items from their Amazon wish list for the shower once May is over and am VERY excited to bring a teeny bit of joy to the families of those who are serving our country so well.   Please join me and remember that every comment counts !!! Thank you!   Teapot Tuesday will return next week as usual!!!  Dont’ forget to check out my post here to get in on a Giveaway that I am doing on my blog!!!

  5. How wonderful, Beth Ann. That’s a lot of money–at least to me. Congrats, my friend. And dare we pat ourselves on the back–since we sort of helped?

May’s organization sounds like a great one, as well.

Missed Teapot Tuesday–but that will only make me enjoy nect week’s instalment that much more. Right?

    And Happy Teapot Tuesday, nonetheless!

    Hugs,

What a blessing for the church, Beth Ann! My heart goes out to military wives, some of them are so young, away from family and friends. I know I wouldn’t have fared well in that role.

    • You are right about how young some of them are and without family support a lot of times. I am really excited about this month!! Can you tell?

  12. Great cause for May & I especially like the idea it ties in with Mother’s Day. I also think it’s a great idea for group showers, it shows the recipients there are other people in the same boat & sometimes friendships arise from these similar circumstances. Never too many friends when you’re a new mother!

  18. Thank you for choosing Operation Shower for your May Comments for a Cause. They have helped many of our young military families.

  19. Operation Shower is a great cause to help out. As a Military Mom as well as a Military spouse it can be hard when you do not have family or friends to be there with you and celebrate such a special time in your life.

    • Jennee, Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment!! I am thrilled to find out about this great cause and show it a little support. I hope this month will bring heaps of comments!

  20. Rebecca Garner says:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the ladies and what they do at Operation Shower and hope that one day they can send a shower in a box to expecting Mil Spouses all over the world!!!
Bravo Zulu ladies, keep up the good work & thank you Beth Ann for giving back & paying it forward by blessing the OS girls with financial support!

  21. As one of the very lucky moms to be invited to an operation shower baby shower, I can say that it is a wonderful organization! The kindness, generosity, and appreciation they show towards military families is something that I will never forget!

    • Ashlee–thanks so much for stopping by and taking the time to comment! I was so excited to find out about OS and since I am a long time ago Navy wife I totally understand the community of military families—an awesome opportunity to give back a bit. Thanks again!

  22. Wow! This is a really great thing you do! I am definitely partial to your May choice as a pregnant USMC wife with a deployed husband. Operation Shower is a ray of light for many during these times. Thank you for your generosity ….to everyone you help. 🙂

    • Kara, thank YOU for taking the time to stop by and leave a comment. I have been happy that this whole month I have gotten a ton of comments so I hope my total for OS will be the best ever!!! Thank YOU and thank your husband for what you are doing for us!!!

  23. This is a very worthy cause. I have several family members that are in the service or that their spouse is in the service. I just wish that i had found this for my niece a little earlier she just had a baby boy and her husband is in the service. Good luck with this, and hope that you are able to receive a lot of comments to help this charity. I would like to suggest another charity that you may like to look into and that is Give Kids the World, who help all children’s wishes come true that are seriously ill.

    • Ora, Thank you so much for the nice comment and taking the time to do it! I am so excited about what OS does and am thrilled that I am getting so many great comments. Thanks also, for your suggestion of Give Kids the World. I have a list that I am keeping of causes to contribute to and this is going on that list!! Thanks again and come back anytime!!! Love new readers!

  24. Thank you so much for supporting military families in this way. It is such a blessing when people in our nation recognize the sacrifices of our little ones.

  25. Joyce Carrasco says:

Excited…yes EXCITED for the July 10, 2012 OPERATiON SHOWER event in Chicago! Planning to roll out the red carpet for the deserving military moms that will be blessed!

  26. Arlene Banks says:

What an awesome cause. I am now 20 years retired from the Army. The one thing that never changes for many military families is stretching that dollar way past its limits at time. Our communities were so strong because we shared, passed on, and helped wherever we needed to no matter where we were stationed. This gives far more than a little relief to an expectant family. It allows others in the community to help a bit elsewhere, so everyone is a winner in this charity! Well chosen!

    • Arlene, Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by and comment. It is so great when people that really support the “cause” stop by and weigh in with comments!!! Thank YOU for your service to our country and for all that you have done!!!

  27. Susanna says:

    • Thank YOU and your husband for your service!! Without people like you our country would not be where it is today. You are the true heroes!! Thanks!

  30. Jocelyn heyward says:

    What a great cause!

  31. I was blessed in November 2011 to attend one of the baby showers put on by Operation Shower. It was amazing and made being pregnant and away from family and friends a little more bearable. My husband was deployed at the time as well. I want to thank you all for supporting by commenting and Beth for the great way to raise funds for a wonderful cause.

  32. Mary Kay says:

Your post brought tears to my eyes … what a beautiful tribute to your father-in-law. I’m grateful there are people like you in this world! 🙂

        • And I am grateful there are people like you! When it is all said and done I find that the number of good people far outweigh the ones who are negative and choose destructive paths. Gotta keep the faith and keep on loving folks!!! Thanks again for the sweet comments!

  41. Operation Shower is a fantastic organization run by fabulous people! I had the honor to be able to help them set up for their Jacksonville, FL shower, and it was, undoubtedly, one of the very best things I have ever been able to be a part of!
