I Have Been Lax

I have a dilemma and I need to figure out how to address it.  A few weeks ago I was almost famous.  Remember?  The guessing who could guess when The Idiot was going to reach 2 million views? I blogged about it here if you missed it the first time around.  I was sure that I could handle all the fame that would come my way if I won.  But I am finding out that maybe I am not cut out for that life.

One of the things that bloggers do sometimes is give each other “awards” of sorts.  I have a few little buttons listed on my sidebar of awards that other bloggers have given me.  Well, in the past couple of weeks I have gotten something crazy like 5 more awards!  Which is awesome! But with those awards come lists of “what you have to do to accept said award”.  Now I haven’t done a thing,  I have not put the buttons on my blog and I have not “followed the rules” and reposted and linked back and answered questions and recommended.  It isn’t that I don’t want to.  It is just overwhelming now.  I went back to the three blogger posts last night where they awarded me these awards and tried to see if I could consolidate or make it easier.  Nope.  I came up with nothing.  I don’t want to not to this but I am currently in the process of reorganizing my craft closet, the house is a wreck, I have pieces of organizers everywhere and am still not halfway done.  Let alone putting all my stuff INTO the organizers.  I am a tad overwhelmed with that project and I HAVE TO GET IT DONE!    Add to it that I am going to be featured on another blog on Monday and am doing another guest post for someone on Thursday and this blog thing is becoming more like a job.  A non paying job at this point.  I don’t want it to be a job.  I want it to be fun.  So my dilemma still is there.  Maybe I just do 3 separate posts over the next couple of weeks and do awards that way?  I don’t know.  I will let you know.  Plus I just remembered that someone else gave me one a looonnnngggggg time ago or tagged me or something and I never ever did anything about that one.   Sorry, Jake.   I will work on it.

Stay tuned.  It is about to get good.

  1. It all does sound overwhelming. Don’t stress too much. It will get done eventually. 🙂

  2. I feel overwhelmed in the same way. I love my writing. I love blogging. I’m starting a book project that is moving forward, and like you.. I can’t keep up. I really want to. Writing has been a dream of mine.. and it’s here. I guess it’s time to refocus and make a new plan. I’ll be checking back to see how you’ve managed. Maybe I can get a pointer ot two from you.

  3. I feel your pain…*lol*…I get overwhelmed with my health, book reviews, and those deadlines. I have to say though, you are awesome. So congrats on the awards! You deserve them! Relax & Enjoy.

  4. Fret not…Help is on the way…I lied, the cavalry is not coming to your rescue and neither is anyone else. As in all things, just do the best you can with what you have..Keep it fun and don’t worry “The Sun’ll come out tomorrow” (there’s a little mind song for you)
Ps. Don’t worry about Jake, being of advancing years he’ll forget about…whatever it was I was talking about.

    • Whew–thanks for the words of wisdom. And someone just gave me another one so I think I am going to have to do a blanket thank you and acknowledgment and get on with it.

  5. Oh the irony! I came a-knocking today bearing the gift of an Award! LOL

However, with this reward, One Lovely Blog Award, I am recognizing bloggers who spread the love around the world in a meaningful way. More than just a pretty blog face I guess you could say — going the extra mile – but not for themselves. And your Comments for Cause definitely qualifies! I wanted to salute that.

But no worries or pressures about doing an acceptance speech (which I say you can certainly do all of them in one post if you want.) I hardly ever follow all the rules myself.

    • WHAT?? Oh my!!! You are so sweet! I love it!!!! I will definitely accept all of these but I just have to figure out how to acknowlege each one and the givers!!! Thank you!!! Thank you!!! Thank you!

  6. I have a couple of blogs I read that have a little icon on them that is very nice, it says they really appreciate the thought but are unable to accept awards due to the requirments of time to resend them. It works great. If you are looking for a “quick fix” you could swap your awards for the No Hoops award that Bernie sent to send to a combination of bloggers instead. Thanks for agreeing to be the featured blogger on Monday! Hope you don’t take out the fame crown for it though. 😉

    • I love your idea!!! I think that I am going to have to do that because it just is too much for a lot of folks to do them! It is very very sweet and I love it and I will figure out a way to acknowledge them all but it will make for a very long post!!! 🙂 Thanks for the great idea. I have the fame crown stashed away,,,,no worries!

  7. The awards add more stress than they are worth, don’t they? I’m glad they don’t seem to be as prevalent as they were a couple years ago!

  8. Gosh, I can relate. I’ve gotten lots of those awards, too, and have ultimately given up on the process of responding. I simply don’t have time. I have also had to limit myself to one guest post a month. Otherwise, it’s too much.

Hang in there! We love you regardless.

    Hugs,
    Kathy

    • I can see why you would have gotten a ton of these!! It is flattering but in the big scheme of things if it is stressing me out then it isn’t what I need to be worrying about, right??? Thanks for the love!!!

  9. Don’t fret. Most people that do awards and tags “change” the rues just a bit. Do what feels right and take your time. That’s what I did. I was tagged 3 times , got a couple of awards and been battling the cold going through the family— it’s my turn again and this one is vicious… I just do the best i can with what i got… as we all do!!! 🙂

    • I think I might change the rules A LOT! 🙂 Sorry about the cold. That just stinks!!! Why did you get it again??? That just does not seem fair at all! Feel better soon!

  10. Beth Ann – I think you nailed it.. Blogging is supposed to be fun, not work. And if it becomes work, well that isn’t good. the blogging awards are a lot of fun, but after you get a few, how many new 11 things can you list about yourself… I also hate having to pick bloggers to give the awards back to.. don’t want to hurt someone’s feelings or don’t want to give them more work. I have to admit, I end up not reposting awards more than I do.. I always feel bad, but… I say, do what you feel is right, and what you can easily do.. Keep your blog fun. because if you don’t you many not want to keep blogging, and that would be very, very wrong!

    • Thanks Hilary!!! That was just what I needed to hear!!! Or read, or whatever!!! I kind of got snowed under and just didn’t know how to acknowledge everyone who was being so nice to me. I am working on it !!! Stay tuned!

  11. I wish I could come help you with your craft closet. Ha! I wish I could work on my own craft room right now. LOL You’ll figure out the best way to handle the awards. It is amazing how time consuming some of these things can be.

    • The craft closet is DONE! Not totally organized but I can work on that a bit at a time. I am getting my house in shape hopefully! And the awards—I am formulating a plan!!!! Stay tuned.

  12. Sweetheart, don’t feel bad! You’re not alone in this. I, too, owed some people replies, answers to their questions, and completing the tasks they’ve handed to me along with the awards. Compounded, they could really be quite overwhelming, to be honest.

Take your time. Once things started to feel like a burden and lost its fun, it’s your mind telling you to take a break. I always remind myself that at the end of the day, blogging is supposed to be fun. Don’t worry, we’ll still be here when you come back! xx

  13. LOL – Whenever I’ve gotten awards, I get a little excited… Then I realize I have to pass the award on, write a post, etc. I start trying to figure out who to pass the award on to. And these things are nuts – “pass the award on to 15 other bloggers…” May as well be 1,000! And then once I do figure out who hasn’t won the darned thing already, I start to wonder if I’m going to be honoring them with this cool-looking award that tells them I think they’re the coolest, or am I just giving them the same kind of workload I was just awarded with?!

So, here’s how I finally decided to handle the awards thing:
    1) Take your time – there’s no deadline on the post. What I often do is start a post with the title being the name of the award and the body will have the button and a link to the blogger who bestowed the award to me. Then I just save it in my unpublished /draft blog posts.
    2) Say you have writer’s block and just haven’t been able to come up with anything to blog about in forever. Go find that draft and finish it up!

    Good luck… and CONGRATULATIONS on being the best/cutest/most versatile/ cherry-on-top blogger X5! 😉

    • Alicia—that is awesome advice. I had started with one of the awards already and it is just sitting in my draft box!!! I think I am going to take your advice and do them over time. You are totally right—-it is not something to stress about!!! I am just going to do it. THANK YOU!
I got your sweet sweet note yesterday—-that made my day!!! I loved it!!! And no thanks needed. I was thrilled to be a part of something bigger than my little world. That is one of my key words this year —bigger. So I am trying to live it out!!!

  14. My goodness. You’ve had such a busy year. Give yourself a break. The blogging stuff can quickly get out of control. I’m with you. I’ve had to dal it back a little out of necessity.

    Congratulations on getting the awards.

  15. Helen Brown says:

What can I say? I love your blogs but am not causing you stress as I am not a bloger.

  16. Sorry to add to your stress Beth Ann! I have to admit I felt stressed when I got 2 awards in the same day as well, but I did the take my time & start it in a draft route too, until I found the time to give it the kind of reply it deserved. Don’t stress – blogging is supposed to be fun & I love reading yours!

    • I am unstressed!!! I was thrilled to get them all but felt like I was letting you all down by not getting them done right away. But it’s all good!!! Thanks for the sweet comments!!!

  17. dont worry !… you are doing and will do even more awesome in future… =)

I love your comments--each one makes me smile and makes a difference for Comments for a Cause! Thanks!
